Reindeer herd
Come and meet our reindeer herd. Meeting a reindeer herd up close is a unique experience and some of them are so tame they will come and greet you if you bring some snacks.
This way you are able to experience a normal day of the Sami people. The trip starts with us driving to the herd by snowmobile and sleds – the duration might vary depending on where the herd is, because they are constantly on the move looking for fresh pastures. Along the way you will also have the opportunity to see the king of the forest – the elk – up close. Reindeers and elks share the same feeding area, but feed on different plants. Once we have caught up with the herd, we will make a bonfire and make bonfire coffee, as well as sharing stories about our culture and way of living.
2 to 4 hours, but this can be tailored to your wishes. The duration of the snowmobile trip itself is about 20 to 30 minutes.
Upon agreement. We can pick you up from the hotel if you want.
Winter in Finnmark can reach several minus degrees and we advise that you wear several layers of clothing. Karasjok has the record for the coldest weather being reported in Norway. Woollen underwear, intermediate layer and preferably a down jacket underneath a windproof jacket. Keep in mind that your feet get cold first, so make sure that you wear some proper winter shoes and warm socks. If the weather reaches below -30 celsius degrees, we will not go ahead with the trip.
